Ryan is a multi-instrumentalist and seasoned guitar coach at The Guitar Gym, known for his extensive expertise and deep-rooted passion for music. Specialising in genres like progressive rock, folk, bluegrass, experimental metal, and gypsy jazz, he brings a unique blend of styles to his teaching, aiming to inspire a deep appreciation for music’s diversity and complexity. Beyond the guitar, Ryan also plays mandolin and banjo, further broadening his ability to offer lessons across a variety of stringed instruments.

As a performer, Ryan’s musical journey is dynamic and impressive. He regularly plays with his band Therein, an experimental metal band based in Brisbane that frequently tours Japan, sharing their unique sound internationally. His performances have graced renowned stages like the Woodford Folk Festival and even Bourbon Street in New Orleans, experiences that have sharpened his live performance skills and given him valuable insights into the demands of professional musicianship. His commitment to exploring diverse musical landscapes is evident, drawing influences from artists like Frank Zappa and genres as eclectic as neo-classical and gangsta rap.

Ryan’s approach to teaching is as multifaceted as his musical background. His mission is to help individuals develop essential skills like discipline, perseverance, and creativity, while also nurturing their unique musical style. By drawing on his extensive knowledge in music history, theory, and technique, he encourages others to not only master their instrument but also cultivate a deeper sense of self-expression and confidence in their playing. He holds a Grade 8 certification with AMEB’s Rockschool and has furthered his training through JMC, equipping him to guide others across all levels of proficiency.
