Toby is a passionate and highly skilled guitar coach at The Guitar Gym, with over 15 years of experience in playing and teaching music. His musical foundation was shaped early on by Peter Koppes of the Australian psychedelic rock band The Church, whose broad musical knowledge and influences ignited Toby’s lifelong love for guitar. Toby’s influences include legendary musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Tool, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, and, of course, his mentor Peter Koppes. With a deep proficiency in blues, rock, and metal, Toby is also highly versed in music theory, bass, drums, piano, and electronic synths, allowing him to offer a diverse and comprehensive approach to music.

Toby’s extensive experience as both a performer and teacher informs his approach to music coaching. He plays guitar and writes songs for the progressive rock band Fox Ache, in addition to performing regularly in a professional covers band and acoustic duo. His wide-ranging performance experience across different genres gives him a real-world perspective that he brings into every lesson, making it relevant and engaging for anyone looking to explore guitar.
